We have been serving OKC families for 17 years and have enjoyed ministering to our student’s hearts and also teaching them to have a heart for others through their dance. We are a classical ballet-based studio, offering as many classical ballet classes as a ballet company’s school. In addition, we offer strong training in jazz, tap, lyrical, and more. Our students have been recognized for their achievements in many styles and in many venues at regional, state, and national levels. If you have any questions about training methods, our leveling program, or special goals or thoughts for your dancer, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Classical Ballet (Vagonova/Russian Method), Pointe, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Lyrical, Acrobatics, and specializing in young children's classes with our original Christian curriculum.

Select from our class schedule which consists of over 85 classes. This gives you multiple options for scheduling, class styles, and keeps your dancer with other students close to his/her own age. Come be a part as we continue to “praise His name with dancing!” Psalm 149:3

In Loving Memory of Jimmy Crowell
I entered the first dance class as a very shy little girl. I was afraid to talk to people and the world simply seemed like too big of a place for me at the young age of seven. Yet Jim greeted me with a smile. I remember one of my first classes, Jim had me stay late so he could teach me a turning pas de bourree that I simply could not execute. He would not stop until I had it. I wanted to cry but didn’t. I knew he cared, and behind my young tear filled eyes, I was deeply grateful. This was the beginning of a long and fun filled ten year journey of learning tap and jazz from a man who simply loved to dance and loved to share it with others. For over 50 years, alongside his wife, Carol, Jim taught his dancers to be positive, carry themselves with grace, and celebrate the joy of life. He never had children of his own but treated each of his students as though they were his. At his memorial service, there were adult young women I recognized from my earlier dance years. Some were still dancing, and some were not. Yet they were all still filled with grace and poise and together we celebrated the life of a wonderful man. Jim, we love you and look forward to dancing with you again someday. You were a wonderful example of a faithful husband, Christian, and artist.
Much love,
Mrs. Daphne

Find more at:

All thanks to the Lord for His grace and strength. We also appreciate our parents and our wonderful staff! Great job everyone!

Join us this summer for dance camps we have planned for ages 3 & 4, 5 & 5, and 7 through 12 being held on June 8th through the 12th. We also begin our six week summer session on June 20th through August 1st. We hope you will come dance with us and enjoy the fun and refreshment a dance class can bring. Too, summer is a great time to try a new style, work on specific elements, and keep the current skill and fitness level a dancer works so hard for during the dance season.

SOAR Company auditions are being held June 5th and June 12th. For more information, please contact Mrs. Daphne at dovedanceokc@yahoo.com. Dove Dance offers a unique company experience which give dancers meeting guidelines amazing ministry opportunities. Our classes are beginning to work on their annual performance dances. Our 16th Annual Recital will be at Oklahoma City University on May 16th at 2 PM and 7 PM. We hope you make plans now to come! Our ballet department will be presenting the original Christian Ballet “The Gift” this spring. “The Gift” has aired internationally on television for four years through our sister school, Academie de Ballet. We are honored to have permission to bring you this breathtakingly beautiful ballet once again!

Our Christmas Program in December was a huge success. We had the honor of dancing for The Angel Tree Party for children with an incarcerated parent/s. It was a huge blessing for our dancers. We also performed our “Classic Christmas” for our family and friends. Over 60 dancers were cast in this year’s spectacular.
Congratulations are in order for Madison Pride who was accepted into the six week summer intensive in New York City at the American Ballet Theatre. Many would argue that this is the highest honor in training for aspiring ballerinas in the country and Madison is one of a few select young ladies graced with this invitation.

Marissa McCurtain won the acrobatic scholarship at DMA Oklahoma Chapter in November. We are also happy to announce that Savannah Tardibono recently won interview, talent, and onstage question/evening gown at the 2009 Oklahoma Junior Miss Scholarship Program. She was also recently accepted into the prestigious OCU Dance Performance Program with scholarship and received the overall audition scholarship for DMA Oklahoma Chapter in November. May the Lord continue to shine in our girls as their levels of influence increase for His purposes.

Six of our dancers performed in the Tulsa Ballet and Oklahoma City Ballet “Nutcrackers” this season: Emma Harris, Claire Harris, Madison Pride, Meghan Bradley, Allie Renner, Destiny Teitjen, and Emily Williams. Samantha Maloy, Jordan Eischen, Emily Canavesio, Savannah Tardibono, and Rachel Tice assisted in dance worship for their home churches this Christmas as well. We are still receiving positive feedback from our China Mission Trip in August. Thank you again to all of the families and businesses who supported our efforts.

Our enrollment for summer and fall ’09 will begin soon. We are expecting yet another full year and hope you will consider being a part. Check our website on occasion for new schedules and updates!

Mrs. Daphne

Find more at:

We are very blessed that parents value quality Christian dance training. Our Dove Dance Tulsa changed hands and is newly named The Calling Dance Academy. The Calling is owned by our former teacher, Jessica Case. We are so excited for their new beginning!
Our China Olympic Festival Tour Mission Trip was a huge success. We fulfilled the definition of mission in every aspect such as humanitarian work, sharing our faith, political influence, and cultural exchange. We danced in children's homes and western churches, danced in Tianamen Square the day the Olympic Torch entered Beijing, met First Lady Laura Bush, and held two dance workshops in Beijing and Lang Fang. We are looking forward to more tours overseas as God opens doors for us.
Special thanks to the following China Tour donors: Harvest Time Church in Enid with Pastor Carl Roberts, Calvary Temple in Edmond with Pastor Dale Drain, Shafer Dental, and SCO-JO Environmental. Our deepest gratitude is also extended to the many private Dove Dance families and friends who contributed as well to our 13 member team.
Our company will be ministering in dance at the North American Feast of Tabernacles on Monday, October 14th. We will also be a part of numerous fall conventions in Oklahoma and abroad. Our company is preparing for our Classic Christmas Show which we will be performing in churches and as outreach. Dates and locations will be posted in October.
Congratulations to our students who were cast in area The Nutcracker performances as follows: Tulsa Ballet: Madison Pride as the lead Marie/Claire, Emma Harris/party guest – Ballet Oklahoma: Claire Harris and Meagan Bradley/Jester Dolls, Emily Williams/Angel, Destiny Teitjin and Allie Renner/Party Guests. A small group of Joshua’s men were surprisingly defeated in battle against Ai. Joshua and his leaders went to the Lord in prayer to seek God’s direction as to why the defeat had occurred? The Lord told Joshua “Stand Up! What are you doing down on your face? Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant which I commanded them to keep”. God directed Joshua to find the sin by separating tribes, then clans, and finally, family by family. God tells Joshua in verse 12 “I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.”

After defeating Jericho, God had specifically told the Joshua’s army to destroy everything. Achan disobeyed and kept some of the “devoted things” from the last battle buried under his tent. Achan confesses to Joshua that he coveted (blameworthy desire for that which is another's) the “devoted things” — a beautiful robe (representing power & authority), gold & silver (representing wealth). Joshua even gave the entire army notice the night before the search, and yet Achan chose to keep the devoted items buried under his tent. Achan did not take Joshua’s words seriously.

As dancers, what can we learn from Achan? As dance artists, we will always find ourselves working with groups where we rely on one another. God is not looking for prima donnas. Following instructions and choreography is essential in keeping a dance group strong and effective — both on and off stage. When a dance team experiences victory, each dancer, parent, and staff member must guard his/her heart and actions. All glory must return immediately back unto the Lord. Keeping the glory or credit for success hidden in the tents of our hearts will insure defeat around the corner. As the story of Achan proves, even one individual’s disobedience will hurt the entire group.

As new dance years begin and new dance teams form, I challenge you to search your heart. Are you returning all the glory to Jesus Christ for your past successes? God created the fine arts to be devoted the Lord. When we take for ourselves what is designed to be devoted the Lord, God then renames it as a “devotion to destruction” (verse 12). Guard your heart and be a blessing to your group. Strive to keep an attitude of servant hood versus star dome. Parents — Don’t be so ambitious or fearful about your dancer’s future that you lose focus. When God opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them. (Isaiah 22:22) Our greatest attempts to promote our children fade in the abilities of their Heavenly Father. Allow Him to work in their behalf in His timing.

Dance leaders — be attentive to your group and continually give God the glory. When you sense trouble in the group, seek God’s voice in prayer. After this, have the courage to expose the problem and keep your group strong. Your group depends on you to oversee and keep high standards. And why should we all strive for this higher calling in the arts? Joshua states it best in verse 9, “What then will you do, Lord, for your great name?” Throughout Joshua’s comments, he frequently shows his concern about representing the name of the Lord well. This should be our unifying goal. Jesus said, “When I am lifted up, I will draw all men unto me.” John 12:32.
Find more at:

It is a supernatural truth that defies logic and natural understanding. Let’s look at the story of Joshua and the walls of Jericho. Even before the victory was seen in the natural, God told Joshua in past tense, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and it’s fighting men”. The war was set to be won, it simply had to be carried out by Joshua and his army. The army of Israel saw the walls of Jericho crumble through their
1) obedience to God in unity
2) the praises lifted up to the Lord in music, marching (an element of dance), and song.

Through God’s instructions, Joshua passed along orders to his army. Note that Joshua alone could not win this battle. It took the obedience and following of the army as well. After marching quietly around the city for six days, Joshua’s army marched on the seventh day and, at Joshua’s command, gave a great shout! At this moment, the wall of Jericho crumbled. They took the city and devoted it to God.

Notice that the praises alone were not enough. First and foremost, it took the hearing and accepting of God’s instructions. If you want the power of praise/dance to work in your life, allow God’s Spirit to speak to you and guide you. You have to “de-throne” yourself from your heart and allow Jesus, your King, to take this place. He will then rule and direct your body, soul, and mind towards a life of destiny and accomplishment for His kingdom. Each step of His journey for your life calls for greater abandonment...greater sacrifices. Be encouraged by remembering that higher standards take you to the higher call. Be a history maker and change your world!

In May, we will look at Joshua, Chapter 7, and see the importance of following God's lead and returning all Glory to Him.

This chapter will rock your world!
Find more at:

In 2007, challenge yourself to allow God to be the choreographer. Let Him guide your steps and teach you how to move.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not unto your own
understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3: 5 & 6

Years ago, this passage carried me through my darkest hour. At the loss of our firstborn son on Christmas night, the Lord woke me up with this scripture running through my mind. Two days after his funeral, I went to church and danced! Not because my body or emotions “felt” like it, but because I had told the Lord years earlier that I would praise Him ALL the days of my life. And, by faith, I danced that day. Years later, this scripture, and my son, David, remind me that God can handle anything life brings. And God can handle anything life brings you this year as well! But you must praise Him and thank Him at all times. You must be willing to follow His steps.

This is a year and time to follow the integrity of God’s word and grow in truth… be knowledgeable of the scriptures firsthand and what they say about life issues. Clean up and get things in order. Life is not a dress rehearsal. This is the big show! Stay plugged in to your choreographer’s instructions so that you know what to do. Don’t just grab His choreography for selfish gain. Follow His steps for His glory and His larger purposes—for the message and those on stage with you. Walk in holiness and hunger after all God has for you. Allow your Heavenly Father to choreograph and direct your year by his Holy Spirit and Word. And don’t forget, whether you are in a valley or on top of mountain, praise Him!! Praise Him!! Always, Praise Him…………….

“Let them praise His name with dancing and make music to him with the
tambourine and harp. For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the
humble with salvation.” Psalm 149:3

Curtain’s UP!
Find more at:

These are the words Gabriel spoke to Mary when she was first told she would mother the Savior of mankind. What an amazing word of faith! With Christmas season upon us, our school is reminded of these words and is seeing that, with God, our lives are pregnant with destiny as we walk in His ways.

This season, our dancers have already enjoyed outreach performances at the Children’s Center, Baptist Nursing Home, Word Explosion Tulsa, Trinity Baptist Church, Momentum Conference, and the Oklahoma City Rescue Mission. Many of our dancers are performing in their home churches throughout the city for Christmas programs. Our dancers return from Branson this week after a blessed opportunity to dance with Dino and Cheryl Kartsinokas in their Christmas spectacular. We thank them for sharing their show with us and look forward to working again with them in the future!

Dove Dance Ministry Troupe will be dancing, January 8th at 7:30 PM at the Civic Center Music Hall (main theatre), for the “A Night to Honor Israel” event. The keynote speaker will be Billy Brim in conjunction with the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem’s, Chuck King. The event is also supported by John Hagee and the Jewish Federation. Admission is free and we encourage everyone to come and be a part.

Congratulations to the following students who received DMA Oklahoma Scholarships this fall through auditions: Emily Canavesio—Jazz, Brittany Albertson—Ballet, Savannah Tardibono—Overall. Congratulations to Miss Emily who leaves this month to begin her dance contract with Walt Disney as a princess and dancer at Disneyworld. Miss Emily has been a part of our school for over four years. She recently attended Ballet Magnificat’s Summer Intensive where she was placed in level 10 (the highest level provided.) She is a beautiful dancer and person. We will miss her and pray the Lord will return her to Dove Dance again in the future.

Dove Dance will be closed from December 23rd through January 3rd. We will meet on December 21st and 22nd to make up for the recent closings due to weather closings.

Our Oklahoma City 14th Annual Recital will be Saturday, May 26th at the beautiful Oklahoma City University Main Theater. “For His Glory” will be a recital focused on the Glory of the Lord found throughout scripture. We are excited to bring back a recital format from previous years in which the audience will thoroughly enjoy.

From all of our Tulsa and Oklahoma City staff, have a very blessed Christmas!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Daphne
Find more at:

We live in a country where independence of mind and spirit is one of flags we waive proudly over our beautiful America. Christian children are taught to be God pleasers. For the last two years, Christian dancers are now being told taught in many circles to dance for an “audience of one”. The intention behind this phrase is to teach dancer’s to solely focus on God’s opinion of them when they dance. This truth is crucial for young people, and yet also calls for a balanced teaching on basic respect and love for authority figures and peers. Each time I hear “audience of one” falling onto young ears, I become concerned. Let me explain.

After teaching young people dance for twenty years, and growing up in the dance arena since the age of seven, my heart is compelled to give my dancers a healthy and balanced view of life as a believer. If not, our desire to teach our children to be independent and ‘God pleasers’ can grow quietly into a spirit of rebellion or isolate the dancer from the body of Christ. This can lead to low self-esteem issues or pride and haughtiness. If a dancer can worship the Lord in their dance but can’t even get along with their peers in dance class, then how will he/she function in ministry as an adult? No pastor or dance company can work with a person who is not sensitive to others.

A few years ago I was holding auditions for the lead parts in our upcoming ballet performance. One student arrived in the lobby and announced to her peers that she was going to get the lead! Another student asked her how she knew she was going to get the lead already. The girl’s reply was “mom and I prayed and we claimed it in Jesus name!” The mother continued to peek through the window and view the closed auditions...praying out loud the entire time. The young girl left auditions without a lead role, other girl’s feelings were hurt, parents in the lobby were bothered. It was not the mother’s place to tell the girl who would get the lead. It was the teacher’s panel decision to make. This was a degrading of authority wrapped up in religious lingo that ultimately bore bad fruit for many. It most likely confused the little girl and sent her away with the impression that either 1) God had failed her, or 2) her teachers had not heard from God that day. Both were degrading authority.

As believers, we must keep our Lord as our focus, passion, motivation, our source of confidence. Yet, our young people must learn to have their hearts turned towards the people—turned towards other believers and turned towards the lost. We do not want to raise up a religious generation that has no heart for humanity. My brother Chris told me a phrase concerning this topic that has stuck with me for many years. He is a Chaplain in the Air Force, graduated with his masters from ORU, and served on their staff. He said, “It is was not our humanity that separated Adam and Eve from God in the garden. It was their sin.” Jesus was often “moved with compassion” for the people who needed him as he ministered on earth. There is a very practical side of Christianity our children need to learn. Dance is praise and worship to God. It is also a powerful language to mankind that breaks through barriers spoken language cannot pierce.

We must remember to teach our dancers to respect their parents, teachers, judges when they are critiqued, or master teachers when at a convention. I do want my students to value what people in authoritative positions share with them. We care about what our children’s grades are in school, their score on a piano evaluation, an update on behavior from the Sunday School teacher or youth pastor. So why should dance be any different? A submissive and teachable spirit welcomes input. I have heard dancers say “It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of me—I dance for an audience of ONE!”. If the dancer has a submissive heart, this phrase doesn’t put a red flag up to me. If the child is non-compliant to teachers and rude to peers, then this phrase is troublesome to my heart.
Always remember, respect is one of the most practical forms of love.
Mrs. Daphne

“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Find more at:
